Privacy Policy

Capsule is built for smaller, more intentional sharing. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use the Capsule mobile app and website.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to Capsule, operated under the Made on Capsule brand ("Capsule," "we," "us," or "our"). It covers the Capsule iOS app, the madeoncapsule.com website, and related support services.

If you use Capsule, you agree that we may process your information as described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

2. Information we collect

Account information

When you create or sign in to an account, we may collect your name, username, email address, phone number, profile photo, bio, profile link, authentication provider identifiers, and password credentials when you choose password sign-in. Passwords are stored using server-side password hashing.

Content you create or share

Capsule stores the photos, videos, captions, stickers, text overlays, capsule names, subtitles, capsule privacy settings, comments, reactions, mentions, reposts, bookmarks, direct messages, voice notes, shared files, and other content you choose to upload, send, or save in the app.

Contacts and people discovery

If you allow Contacts access, Capsule may process contact names and phone numbers to help you find friends, invite people, or share contact cards in messages. In some friend-matching flows, phone numbers may be hashed before being sent to our server. In messaging contact-match flows, selected or matched contact details may be sent to our server to resolve Capsule users. You can decline Contacts access or change it in iOS Settings.

Camera, photos, microphone, and device permissions

Capsule asks for device permissions only when needed. Camera and photo library access let you capture, upload, save, or choose media. Microphone access lets you record video audio or voice notes. Notification permission lets us send alerts about activity, messages, mentions, comments, capsule invites, and similar updates.

Usage, device, and diagnostics information

We may collect limited technical information such as device type, operating system, app version, IP address, timestamps, app events, crash logs, performance signals, notification tokens, and server logs. This helps us secure the service, deliver notifications, debug problems, and improve the app.

Support information

If you contact support, we collect the information you provide, such as your email address, name, username, issue category, message, screenshots, and any follow-up communications.

3. How we use information

  • Provide, operate, maintain, and secure Capsule.
  • Create accounts, authenticate users, and prevent unauthorized access.
  • Upload, store, render, and deliver photos, videos, messages, comments, reactions, and capsule content.
  • Apply privacy settings, blocks, private profiles, hidden capsules, private mode, screenshot protections, and download controls.
  • Send service notifications, activity alerts, and message delivery updates.
  • Help users find friends, invite contacts, and manage capsule membership when they choose to use those features.
  • Respond to support requests and communicate about account or safety issues.
  • Monitor abuse, spam, fraud, security risks, and violations of our rules.
  • Analyze reliability, performance, and feature usage to improve Capsule.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our rights.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your private capsule content for third-party advertising.

4. How information is shared

With other users

Your profile information and content may be visible to other users based on your actions and settings. For example, people may see your username, avatar, public profile, public capsules, comments, reactions, reposts, messages you send, and content in capsules where they are a creator, member, viewer, or collaborator.

Private capsules are intended to be visible only to the creator and accepted members or viewers selected for that capsule. Public capsules and public profile information may be visible more broadly.

With service providers

We use service providers to run Capsule. These may include hosting and database providers, Cloudinary for media storage and delivery, Apple and Google for sign-in, Firebase and Apple Push Notification service for notifications and app infrastructure, analytics or diagnostic providers, and email or support tools. These providers process information for us according to their own terms and privacy commitments.

For legal, safety, and business reasons

We may disclose information if we believe it is necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect users, investigate abuse, enforce our terms, protect our rights, or complete a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or similar business transaction.

5. Your choices and controls

  • You can edit profile details, notification preferences, privacy settings, and capsule visibility settings in the app.
  • You can choose whether a capsule is private, shared with a clique, solo, or public where available.
  • You can block users, hide capsules, leave cliques, delete content where the app allows it, and control whether viewers can save certain capsule media.
  • You can manage camera, microphone, photos, contacts, and notification permissions in iOS Settings.
  • You can use Sign in with Apple or Google according to the controls those providers offer.
  • You can contact us to request account help, deletion, access, correction, or other privacy assistance.

6. Security and retention

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect information, including HTTPS transport, authenticated server requests, access controls, and password hashing for password-based accounts. No service can guarantee perfect security, so please use a strong password, keep your device secure, and contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.

We keep information for as long as needed to provide Capsule, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and support backups or audit logs. If you delete content or request account deletion, we will take reasonable steps to remove or de-identify information unless we need to retain it for legal, safety, security, or legitimate operational reasons.

7. Privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal information. You may also have the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To make a request, contact us at privacy@madeoncapsule.com. We may need to verify your account before completing a request. If you are in a region with a privacy regulator, you may also have the right to contact that regulator.

8. Children

Capsule is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to Capsule, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

If local law requires a higher age of consent for online services, you must meet that age or have appropriate parent or guardian consent to use Capsule.

9. International transfers

Capsule may process and store information in countries other than your own. Those countries may have different data protection laws. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users, such as updating the date above, posting a notice, or providing an in-app notice.
